Album cover’s set the tone and hint at the journey you are about to embark upon when you push play. While music videos serve as a visual appetizer before you get the entire auditory feast, they set the tone and overall vibe.

Blue Ambition’s Seduction of the Innocent features cover art and videos brimming with mid-century sci-fi pulp depicting spacewomen of the future cruising around the cool galactic landscape. These thrilling space adventures depict a special kind of pizzazz that begs you to listen to what is between the covers. I must say that these promotional materials drew me in, and I wanted to listen to and learn more about this album.

The godfather of AOR music, Frédéric Slama, returns with a new melodic rock project entitled “Blue Ambition.” Since 2000, Frédéric has released an impressive run of albums, the sheer volume of work is astounding.

This project features Robbie LaBlanc (on all vocals), Tommy Denander (all instruments), and Frédéric (on composition, guitars, and keyboards). All have worked together in the past. You cannot go wrong with these three very disciplined and polished artists. They are the gold standard for AOR and are perfectly suited for this project.

Everyone knows AOR music; that melodic wash of sound, which could either increase your adrenaline levels or lead you to a slow-burning emotional journey. But nothing prior could prepare you for the deep emotions which Blue Ambition will stir within you. This new music will resonate with your heart, mind, and spirit. Full of the Westcoast sound, these beautiful melodies, superb harmonies, and powerful performances will blow you away.

The album features a formula that incorporates elements of progressive rock and is full of nice, long epic songs, and I love that.

The album opens with an emotion charged anthem, “Ground for Suspicion,” followed by the edgier song with a huge chorus and unstoppable energy “Holding on to You.” Frédéric’s skill on keyboards and his strong sense of harmony are clear throughout the album, especially on this song and the upbeat “Wired Angel.”

“Without Warning” a softer entry is ultra melodic, with a nice guitar solo, it is a beautiful tune you get lost in. The powerful title track, “Seduction of the Innocent” is seven sophisticated minutes of soulful vocals.

“Clear Storm” is a progressive instrumentation woven into a catchy tune with strong melodic lines.

“Diamond blue” is smooth, mellow yet cheerful, feel-good song. “Paradise Hunter” is a soft song, but it has a huge chorus that remains with you long after you turn off the music, a great song and one of my favorites.

“Without Compromise” is ballad that speaks to the heart. “The Color of Rain” provides a satisfying conclusion, ending on a relaxing track that evokes images of someone’s reflection on relationships and life on a rainy day.

The quality of this material stands as a testament to Frédéric’s songwriting ability and incredible ear for production. Robbie possesses that coveted quality of making difficult vocals sound easy and natural. The combination of his vocals, Tommy’s guitar work, and Frédéric’s compositions consistently offers an outstanding listening experience, and this album is intended to be enjoyed in its entirety from beginning to end.

Science fiction imagery, particularly spaceships and landscapes, offers a strong visual appeal, and can evoke a sense of adventure, and escapism, which can be compelling for album artwork. There seems to have always been a connection between rock music and space, which was often an attractive choice for AOR bands like Journey and Boston. So, seeing Blue Ambition in 2025 choosing those themes is very appealing to me.

I recommend checking out all the videos for the singles, “Holding on to You”, “Wired Angel”, “Without Warning”, “Seduction of the Innocent”, “Diamond Blue”, “Clear Storm” and “Without Compromise” It is Utopia that’s being evoked within each, and I love it. In this reimagined future, tomorrow and yesterday met and everything is fifties era bombshells, and nifty gadgets.

I adore the use of cute robots, thinking machines and workers of the future. The vibe is a bright new age, a gleaming future dream in which the listener can escape. Can you dig it?

I can, pick up Blue Ambition’s Seduction of the Innocent today, pop it in, push play and imagine you are a utopian and see what challenges the city will bring.
